Language Translation and Interpreting
Program (TRIN)

Century's new Translation and Interpreting program (TRIN) focuses on training students who want to help non-native English speakers communicate with the English-speaking community.

Our program is designed to prepare students with the critical thinking
and interpreting skills necessary to pass interpreter certification examinations, and to begin interpreting careers.

In addition, students will learn to administer accurate, culturally
competent interpretations in a variety of settings in our increasingly
diverse communities.

Options

We offer two options:

  • Certificate
  • Associate's Degree

Interpreters will be prepared to work in the fields of education, health care, and social services.

According to the the Bureau of Labor, translating and interpreting is a fast-growing field.

Coursework

Coursework includes:

  • Orientation to Interpreting
  • Consecutive Interpreting
  • Intercultural Communication
  • Critical Thinking
  • concepts in psychology and socio-linguistics

Getting started

If you're interested, register at Century’s Admissions Office, located on the West Campus.

  • Contact Mairi Hansen.
  • Take the Accuplacer test.
  • Register to take the TRIN 1000 Orientation to Interpreting class before you are admitted into the program.

Transfer students

If transferring from another U.S. institution:

  • Students must go through our DARS Office to have credits transferred into the program.
